Let us introduce to you Australia’s Manuka Honey
Manuka honey comes from the nectar gathered by the bees of the Leptospermum species (manuka) flower.
Naturally the Original Home of Manuka - Australia
Firstly – a bit about the manuka species… while there is only one species in New Zealand, there are over 80 confirmed as native to Australia – 28 been scientifically proven “bioactive”. It is thought that New Zealand’s only species originally travelled there from southern Australia, after the separation of the ancient continent Gondwana.
What sets Leptospermum species (manuka) honey apart from traditional honey?
Manuka honey's antibacterial properties are what set it apart from traditional honey. Additionally, manuka honey has antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. In fact, it has traditionally been used for wound healing, soothing sore throats, mouth ulcers and improving digestive issues.
These key factors are found only in Manuka Honey
Leptosperin – naturally occurring chemical found only in manuka nectar (& a few very close relatives)
DHA – Dihydroxyacetone – is another naturally occurring chemical in the nectar of the manuka flower. DHA then converts to the powerhouse MGO once our busy bees turn the nectar into honey.
MGO – methylgloxal – is nature’s agent responsible for manuka honey’s unique antibacterial properties and is the key indicator of activity strength in Manuka honey.
The higher the MGO number, the more potent the antibacterial properties.
Our manuka honeys are tested at three independent laboratories to contain the key beneficial compounds essential to bioactive manuka honey: Methygloxal (MGO), Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and Leptosperin.
Following extensive studies in both New Zealand & Australia, Australia’s Manuka Honey has been proven to contain the essential MGO property, able to inhibit growth of many bacteria & fungi.
Naturally a Family Affair
Michael Howes is the sweetest man & he truly loves & knows everything about bees! Michael & his family established the apiaries in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales in 1996 and have been supplying premium medical grade honeys, harvested primarily from their own hives to pharmacies and health food outlets in Australia & other parts of the world, including USA, UK, Germany, and Japan.
While Michael now oversees the strict quality control of the honey in their factory, he still loves to go for long walks to enjoy the pristine forest home to his precious bees. In true family fashion, Michael’s sons and sons-in-law are out and about in nature tending & caring for the beehives.
They are passionate about giving back to the earth using sustainable & ethical practices. Investment into their new production facility means it is 100% Solar Powered & off the grid.
Naturally Happy Bees, Naturally Healthy Honey
The Howes care for their bees and harvest Australia’s Manuka honey ethically, naturally and without the use of sugar feeding, antibiotics or veterinary pharmaceuticals. They respect that the bees are the source of natural health benefits for us.
In other words, they always leave ample honey for their bees to use and don’t boost them up artificially.
Australia’s Manuka Honey bees are located in the pristine forests of Northern Rivers, New South Wales, Australia. The beekeepers assist their bees in following the seasonal flora & pollen throughout the year to strengthen, nourish & keep them happy & healthy. This keeps the bees in prime shape to gather the nectar from the Manuka flowers annually in October and November!
